Basic teacher training for primary school teachers takes around three and a half years at University. For lower secondary teachers, University training lasts from about three and a half to four and a half years with 2 more years practical training in school scenario. For Upper secondary school teachers, training takes four and a half years in University, then a further two and a half years practical training in a school setting.

Responsibility for basic teachers training lies with the Ministries of Education and Cultural Affairs of the United States. They are the ones who regulate training through study regulations and examination regulations. Examinations are held by the state examination authorities or boards of the United States. Basic teachers training are generally divided into two stages. It includes a course of higher education and practical pedagogic training. This training does not just focus on the theoretical aspects, but they also focus on the practical application of what you have already learned so far. It is the applicability of learned knowledge which is taught in these basic training courses. Teacher training courses are offered at universities and teacher training colleges. Practical pedagogic training in the form of preparatory service is given in training schools.

The length of these courses varies from place to place. It ranges from about 18 months to 24 months. Within a matter of few months, it prepares teachers to teach the students in a more effective manner. They place emphasis on varied areas, not just on academics. Their syllabus included setting lessons and guided teaching at training schools. Educational theories and subject-related didactics at seminars are also taught at these teacher training courses.

To judge whether the teachers are learning properly, examinations are held. All courses end with an examination, the results of which prove the competency of the teachers. Generally an oral and written examination is held, though sometimes the teachers are expected to submit a dissertation paper as well. In recent studies it has been seen that the basic skills of teachers is experiencing a downfall. Newly trained teachers lack proficiency in basic skills. Hence basic teachers training is required to keep the intellectual level of teachers up to date with the current expectation of the students as well as the school authority. In today's world of cut throat competition, it is the fittest who survive in the rat race. In this case, teachers are no different.

They have to opt for training time to time to learn more. There is no age limit to learning more and this is proven by the number of basic training courses which has come up. It is good teachers who make a difference to society and thus teachers training are becoming increasingly important.
