Celebrating Your Teacher With Appreciation

Teacher Appreciation

There are so many ways to appreciate teachers-be it celebrating Teachers' Day in India on the 5th of September or The National Teacher Day on the second Tuesday of May in the United States. Gifting cards to favorite teachers, cultural programs organized by the school administration or the parents and the students - these are very common these days as a gesture of acknowledging the undying dedication of the teachers.

Today's education provides fuel to a child's brain but seldom feeds his soul. It should not be bound to a few pages of grammar and some cold derivations and calculations. Hence, in order to cleanse the education system from being too superficial and mechanical further embittered by thoughtless teaching of ruthless, unfeeling teachers, many teaching courses have been introduced to make education simpler, easy to digest and also to train the teachers to touch the students' hearts first and then their minds. The real appreciation of a teacher lies in the recognition of his/her contribution in the nation's progress by nurturing the youth and paving their way to manhood. A teacher not only teaches, he inspires through his actions, his dreams, and his ideals.

Apart from recognizing the teachers' contribution in the students' lives, there are other tangible ways of appreciating the teachers. The most common thing these days is buying cards for the teachers or sending lovely flowers or any other gifts by both parents and students. Different card companies come up with innovative cards with quotes by eminent personalities on teachers. As a token of appreciation, along with different gifts, the students generally pen down a few verses to show their genuine love and how they are eternally grateful and indebted to their teachers, who are like heroes or idols to many. Different cultural programs are organized by the school administration where not only the students, but also the parents show their appreciation for the most selfless breed of humans who are responsible for the growth and education of the young generation of today. Many students even go on to nominate their favorite teachers for different national teachers' awards.

There are other instances as well how teachers are appreciated. The classrooms are decorated with balloons or color ribbons and sometimes even painted. Poster boards can be made with each teacher's name at the top and a marker to each poster board; students sign these posters with messages to each teacher. A yearbook containing photos of the teachers and students with special comments from the students and their parents can be given out to the teachers or a video can be shot with students talking about their favorite teachers, to be shown at a special teachers' luncheon.
