There is no end to professional development and education for people and teachers are no exception. The continuing education of teachers has become common among teachers in United States because they always aiming towards betterment of education standards and upgrading the standards of teachers. There are multiple courses which have come up for the purpose of teachers continuing education .these courses were designed by the schools to provide technical support, professional development opportunities and recognition of teachers at all grade levels. Since the teachers are the sole factors in hiking the achievement level of students, their quality needs to be maintained through continuous and on going education. There is no age to learn more and that is proven through these courses where teachers are encouraged to hone their skills. Not just through courses, but teachers education is continued by means of workshops as well. These workshops allow teachers from various streams and schools to come together and share their expertise and knowledge. This sharing of ideas leads to intellectual enhancement of all the teachers. These workshops also turn out to be pretty interesting as they are interactive and give a platform to teachers to propagate their own ideas. These workshops inform the teachers about additional skills required to teach the students more effectively such as they are taught how to develop leadership skills. They are also taught various classroom strategies. They are taught how to understand the students from various communities in a better manner. In order to motivate the teachers to gain additional education, teachers should be given some incentives. Apart from monetary incentives such as higher pay and better remuneration, teachers look for other kind of incentives such as rewards which gives them a prestigious position in the society. Each year, the U.S. Department of Education honors one wonderful classroom teacher from each state and the District of Columbia. Nominations start being accepted from mid-January to early-April and the winners are announced the following fall. Even the students as well as the general public are given a chance to vote. This sounds incentive enough for teachers to opt for continuing education. Teacher's continuing education is also ensured through various round table conferences which encourage the teachers to go in for more education. Here teachers representing their school, state, country, or culture come together and discuss various issues which have an impact on education today. They also discuss various educational policies and also try to modify them for the betterment of students as well as the entire educational community. Hence it is certain that teacher's continuing education not only benefits the upcoming students but also the teachers in some way or the other. Hence teachers should not hesitate in gaining knowledge at any point in their life. |
